Bulgaria Advances at Quebec Tennis

Third-seeded Bulgarian tennis player Magdalena Maleeva reached the quarter-finals of the Bell Challenge in Quebec. In the second-round matches Maleeva, 27 years old, defeated Anousjka van Exel of the Netherlands 6-4 2-6 6-3. Magi will face Switzerland's Marie-Gaianeh Mikaelian, who unexpectedly edged defending champion Meghann Shaughnessy, seeded fifth in the WTA Tour event. Top seed Silvia Farina Elia went through to the quarter-finals as well, beating American Laura Granville 6-1 6-4.
