Bulgarian Parliament Votes to Allow Foreign Companies in Railway Operation
National Assembly adopted at first reading two bills for amendments to the Railway Transport Acts
Two Bulgarian oppositional parties have demanded that Defense Minister Anyu Angelov and Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov address the Parliament on Wednesday in the aftermath of the explosions that took place at an ammunition depot.
Ventsislav Lakov, an MP with far-right Ataka (Attack) party wants the two Ministers to inform the Parliament about the situation near the Petolachkata road junction in Southeastern Bulgaria.
The fact that explosions have been taking place exclusively in private-owned facilities in Bulgaria is no coincidence, Lakov has stated.
Left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party also wants Tsvetanov and Angelov to be heard by the Parliament, the Focus news agency reports.
The blasts at the ammo site near the Petolachkata road junction close to Sliven occurred at 2:40 pm on Tuesday, injuring at least 9 people, two of them critically.
Three ammunition depot workers are still missing.
The facility in question is the property of a Sofia-based firm, Bereta Trading, which uses it to dismantle munitions – including shells from the Chelopechene military depot near Sofia that exploded in July 2008.
