Bulgaria's right-wing Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) party has elected its new interim leader, Boris Markov.

Markov was in charge of the party's headquarters in last year's presidential and local elections.

UDF's national council is to announce the date in which internal elections will be held to determine the party's next leader.

UDF's former chairman, Martin Dimitrov, resigned after the majority of the formation's national council members decided that the party would compete on its own in the 2013 general election, thus breaking up the so-called Blue Coalition, a union between UDF and the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria.

The Blue Coalition was established in the eve of the general elections in 2009 and has been marred by troubles and discord ever since. It currently has 14 MPs.

On Monday, DSB declared they are most likely to run solo at the 2013 general elections.
