Bulgaria's Economy and Energy Minister Delyan Dobrev has appointed Elitsa Panayotova as Executive Director of Sofia Tech Park, the new subsidiary of "National Company Industrial Zones" (NCIZ).

The Sofia Tech Park project was unveiled last week during President Rosen Plevneliev's visit to the US.

Bulgaria's head of state said that giants like Google, Hewlett Packard and Cisco would help for the development of the concept of Sofia Tech Park and the subsequent implementation of the project.

On May 21, Dobrev said in an interview for the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) that the company would be set up by the end of the week (May 27) as a subsidiary of NCIZ with an initial capital of BGN 3 M.

He explained that the company would subsequently tap EUR 50 M under the Competitiveness Operational Program.

The authorities have not come up with an official statement about the company's registration.

Panayotova is an Architecture graduate of a joint program of the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, Sofia and the University of National and World Economy (UNWE).

She holds an MA from the University of Lincoln University in the UK.

She has worked as an architect, including on the project for the construction of Business Park Sofia.

Panayotova has also been a commercial representative at the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism in Washington.

She now runs a company for architecture and urban design and consulting services.

By the end of 2012, the concept, the strategic partners and the financing structure are to be clear, with some mechanisms of the project already operational.

The turning of the first shod has been scheduled for the second half of 2013.

Sofia Tech Park's office building, technological center and museum are to start functioning by end-2015.

The slot earmarked for the project is on the 4th kilometer intersection of the Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd in Sofia and is currently owned by the Ministry of Defense.

In his May 18 statement, Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev described the technological park in Sofia as a platform for entrepreneurship and innovations in the sphere of information and communications technologies.
