Bulgaria's PM Boyko Borisov will personally participate in the re-planting of 2,605 wild snowflake flowers to make way for the construction of Maritsa Highway.

Thursday Borisov was on inspection of the road construction of Maritsa, which is set to connect Bulgaria's southern Trakiya Highway to the border with Turkey in the south-east.

The wild snowflakes, flowers of the genus Leucojum, are related to regular snowdrops, and albeit not protected species in Bulgaria, they are under a special regulatory regime for conservation.

"Next week we will come back to move the snowflakes. We will be taking them from the track of the highway and will re-plant them 60 meters away," said the Bulgarian PM.

"I know their exact number: 2605 wild snowflakes. They made us count them one by one," clarified Borisov.

The Bulgarian PM added that he will be aided in this nature-loving activity by Bulgaria's Minister of Regional Development Lilyana Pavlova and Minister of Environment Nona Karadzhova.

Borisov further stressed that all infrastructure projects vaunted by his center-right GERB cabinet are being executed under the strictest observance of environmental requirements and respect for nature.
