A plan exists for the destruction of Bulgaria's right-wing Union of Democratic Forces party (UDF), according to the formation's former leader, Martin Dimitrov.

The plan involves UDF entering a coalition with two marginal parties, the National Movement for Stability and Prosperity and VMRO-NIE, Dimitrov reckons.

He believes that such coalition would be "of no principles."

On Tuesday, Dimitrov resigned as UDF leader after the majority of its national council members decided that the party would compete on its own in the 2013 general election, thus breaking up the so-called Blue Coalition, a union between UDF and the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria.

The Blue Coalition was established in the eve of the general elections in 2009 and has been marred by troubles and discord ever since. It currently has 14 MPs.

On Wednesday, Dimitrov stated that the major runners for taking over UDF would be failed presidential runner Rumen Hristov and Boris Markov, head of the party's campaign headquarters in 2011's presidential and local elections.
