The municipal administration in the southern Black Sea city of Burgas has insisted that the Executive Agency on Fisheries and Aquaculture (EAFA) should be moved to Burgas rather than Varna.
Mayors of six cities situated on the southern Black Sea coast sent Monday a motivated proposal about the matter to Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
The municipal administration in Burgas drew attention to the fact that there was a building that was ready to host the staff of the fisheries watchdog.
Under current administrative decentralization plans, the EAFA will be relocated to Varna.
Konstantin Grebenarov, District Governor of Burgas, told journalists Monday that there were a host of logical reasons behind the transfer of EAFA to Burgas.
He insisted that 70% of the fishing was done in the Burgas region, which was also where the majority of the seafood processing companies and the fishing fleet were registered.
"This will allow us to cut uncessesary travel for specialists and fishermen who need permits and certificates," Grebenarov added.
