Ukraine's ex PM and leader of the Batkivschyna All-Ukrainian Association party Yulia Tymoshenko has agreed to begin treatment at the Ukrzaliznytsia Central Clinical Hospital (Kharkiv) on May 8 under the supervision of German doctors.

Karl Max Einhaupl, a doctor from the Charite University Hospital (Berlin, Germany) announced this, reading a joint statement by the German and Ukrainian members of an international medical commission, reported the Ukrainian News Agency.

The joint statement says that the German and Ukrainian doctors met with Tymoshenko on May 4 for a detailed conversation.

"Mrs. Tymoshenko preliminarily agreed on Tuesday, May 8, to be transferred to the Central Clinical Hospital in Kharkiv," the doctors say.

According to the statement, doctors from Charite will immediately begin treating Tymoshenko at the hospital with the support of Ukrainian doctors.

The German doctors stressed that this was a joint statement and that they were unable to answer questions from journalists.

Ukraine's First Deputy Health Minister Raisa Moiseenko was present at the reading of the joint statement.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the German doctors earlier arrived at the Kachanivska female penal colony No. 54 (Kharkiv) to examine Tymoshenko.

On April 25, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs invited doctors from the Charite University Hospital to perform medical examination and rehabilitation of Tymoshenko.

Germany has expressed concerned that Tymoshenko has gone on a hunger strike.

Doctors from the Charite University Hospital Karl Max Einhaupl and Norbert Haas visited Kharkiv on April 13 to inspect the Ukrzaliznytsia Central Hospital, which experts with the Ukrainian Ministry of Health have proposed for treatment of Tymoshenko.

The German doctors also examined Tymoshenko in her cell at the Kachanivska penal colony.

Tymoshenko, a former prime minister and heroine of Ukraine's 2004 Orange Revolution, was jailed for seven years in October last year for abuse of office in what Western governments said was a politically motivated trial. She faces another trial on embezzlement charges.

Tymoshenko has been sentenced to seven years in jail for abuse of power for making a natural gas supply contract with Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin after the 2009 Russian-Ukrainian gas crisis, which is said to have been unfavorable for Ukraine.

The jailed ex Prime Minister claims that her political rival, President Viktor Yanukovych, is using the country's judiciary to punish her. She denies wrongdoing and says she is being persecuted by President Viktor Yanukovych.
