A total of EUR 150 M has been provided under the Competitiveness Operational Program for boosting the energy efficiency of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, according to Economy and Energy Minister Delyan Dobrev.

Speaking at the Green Energy Forum, Dobrev presented Wednesday the scheme under the Competitiveness OP, stressing that the project was entirely new for Bulgaria.

He explained that the companies would also be able to get low-interest loans to implement the projects.

"The intensity of the grants will be 30-50%. Up to 50% of the cost of the projects will be covered by grant schemes. The maximum amount of the grant will be BGN 2 M per project. The implementation of the program is expected to result in a reduction of the administrative burden for applicants, increased quality and speed of project appraisals, the elimination of co-financing problems for candidates, and a transfer of know how from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)," Dobrev stated.

EU Funds Minister Tomislav Donchev observed that the energy efficiency of SMEs had been a "terra incognita" for Bulgaria.
