Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has fired Gen. Kircho Kirov whom he appointed as an adviser only two months ago, after dismissing him as head of the National Intelligence Service.

Kirov, who had been the head of the Bulgarian intelligence for the past 9 years, was dismissed in January 2012, together with his deputy Gen. Angelov.

Speaking back then, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov explained that Gen. Kircho Kirov, the outgoing head of the Bulgarian intelligence, will not be appointed as an ambassador because of his record of collaboration with the former State Security, the secret service of the Bulgarian communist regime, but that he would be offered an adviser post at PM's office.

Kirov's adviser position dismissal by Borisov was announced late Thursday by the government press service without given any reasons for the move.

Unconfirmed reports were quick to declare that Kirov has been fired as a result of violations during his work as chief of Bulgaria's National Intelligence Service.

According to opposition whistleblower MP Yane Yanev, whose credibility, however, can be questionable, as cited by Mediapool, Kirov is said to have uncovered violations by ex President Georgi Parvanov and ex Vice President Angel Marinov boiling down to a corruption ring for the granting of Bulgarian citizenship, with a lot of money involved.

Yanev claims Borisov has already referred Kirov to the Prosecutor's Office but his words have not been confirmed by any government sources.
