Yellowish rain containing desert dust has been observed in the Southern Bulgarian regions of Smolyan and Blagoevgrad.

Experts have explained that the phenomenon is probably caused by a Mediterranean cyclone that has brought about dust from Sahara, the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency has informed.

The "Sahara dust" rain is not dangerous, according to Bulgarian meteorologists. However, cars will have to be washed once it is over.

On Wednesday, code orange was declared in seven regions in Central Bulgaria due to heavy downpours and thunderstorms.

A rainfall of between 40 and 60 liters per square kilometer is expected on Wednesday for the regions in question (Pleven, Lovech, Gabrovo, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Smolyan and Kardzhali.)
