An old house has collapsed in the southwestern village of Yakoruda, killing a 23-year-old woman and a baby girl aged a year and three months.

The accident in the Roma quarter of the village was reported a few minutes after 2 p.m. on emergency number 112, the Interior Ministry reported Friday afternoon.

Two rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the location.

It turned out that a retaining wall of an old building had collapsed to suppress two women (aged 22 and 23) and a baby.

The witnesses of the accident reacted immediately and managed to pull the people out of the debris before the arrival of the rescue teams.

Despite the help, the 23-year-old woman and the baby girl died on the spot.

The 22-year-old woman was taken to hospital with a broken leg and graze wounds.

The site is being cleared up and the cause of the building collapse is yet to be determined.
