Bulgaria's ruling centrist-right GERB will call snap elections in the autumn of 2012, according to Volen Siderov, leader of the nationalist Ataka party.

The move will aim at preventing potential new political formations from gaining momentum ahead of the 2013 general election, Siderov has explained, adding that the ruling party also wants to carry out earlier elections because its approval rating will be too negative in 2013.

The far-right leader has described the cancellation of the Belene Nuclear Power Plant project as a move that "caters to foreign interests", dariknews.bg informs.

According to the oppositional politician, the choice of the HSBC bank as as a financial consultant on the Belene project will cost the country EUR 2.5 M.
