Bulgarian ruling GERB party MP Plamen Tsekov has been nominated as the next head of Bulgaria's National Health Insurance Funds (NZOK), according to reports.

The proposal to nominate Tsekov has already been approved by the center-right party's political group in Parliament, and by the leadership of the party.

Tsekov's candidacy has to be approved by a plenary vote, in which GERB can count on a large minority plus a number of aligned independent MPs.

Up to now, Tsekov has been vice-chair of the parliamentary Committee on Health, as well as chair of the group for friendship with Switzerland.

Previously another front-bench GERB MP, chair of the parliamentary Committee on Finance Menda Stoyanova, was said to be pinpointed for the next NZOK boss.

Bulgaria's National Health Insurance Fund former director, Neli Nesheva, resigned in the wake of a resonating scandal with sizeable bonuses being given within her institution, including to herself.
