Bulgarian MEP Dimitar Stoyanov, together with fellow MPs who left nationalist Ataka party, founded Sunday a new political party in Bulgaria, the National Democratic Party.

Stoyanov founded the party together not only with the 5 Ataka renegade MPs, but also with his mother Kapka Siderova.

Siderova is the estranged wife of Ataka leader Volen Siderov, whom the founders of the National Democratic Party accused of authoritarian manners and mismanaging Ataka.

"Our new party will not be a "leader's party." We will learn from our experience in Ataka," said Stoyanov at the founding congress in Sofia's National Palace of Culture Sunday.

Representatives also denied allegations by Bulgarian PM and GERB party leader Boyko Borisov that they have signed allegiance to GERB.

"We have supported GERB for some policies that we view as reasonable, but we stay completely independent," commented Stoyanov.

He added that the party will be open for cooperation with all other political actors in Bulgaria, except for the liberal Movement for Rights and Freedoms, seen as representing the interests of Bulgaria's ethnic Turks.

"More Ataka MPs are about to leave the political group in parliament," announced Kapka Siderova, not specifying whether they are to join the new National Democratic Party.

At present, Ataka has the minimum of 10 MPs required for a formal group in the 240-seat Bulgarian Parliament.

Among the priorities of the National Democratic Party is support of Bulgaria's young people, including young families; extensive development of education, research and innovation; as well as pursuit of Bulgaria's national interests in the framework of European values.

Stoyanov and Siderova provoked a rift with Volen Siderov last November, after the MEP called Siderov to resign following a poor showing at October presidential elections.

At the same time, MPs from the Ataka political group started splitting, accusing their leader of holding them financially dependent to his political advantage.

Sunday Siderov spoke in front of an Ataka protest against recent claims on border Black Sea waters by Romania, but did not fail to address the issue of party dissenters.
