Desislava Atanasova, Bulgaria's newly nominated Health Minister, is going to propose a new plan for the patients who want to select a doctor or a medical team.
Atanasova, who, upon approval of the Parliament, is to become the fourth Health Minister in the cabinet of the ruling, center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, since it took office in July 2009, already announced she will eliminate fees paid by patients for the said selection in cases of children surgeries and birth.
"People should be able to select the doctors they want in any hospital and health facility without having to pay for it," the nominated Minister says, quoted by the Bulgarian Standard daily.
She points out that she would look for other ways to motivate doctors.
Atanasova explains that as Chair of the Parliamentary Health Committee, she had already proposed to make the selection of a medical team an additional service paid by insurance from private funds, adding she continues to support the idea and would work on implementing it.
The new Health Minister, however, stressed that all her plans need to be approved by the Parliament.
