Bulgarian Interior Minisrter Tsvetan Tsvetanov has openly criticized the recent media statements of former Economy and Energy Minister Traicho Traikov,
Traikov was sacked on Thursday, allegedly because of his stance against Russian energy projects in Bulgaria. PM Boyko Borisov has claimed he dismissed him over a failed Bulgarian-Qatari business forum organized in Doha over the week.
"We should not fall for these cheap tricks – 'I was a freedom fighter but they forced me to promote Russian energy interests.' The Prime Minister was perfectly clear that there will not be a Bulgarian-Russian project in Belene," Tsvetanov told TV7 on Monday.
The Interior Minister also stated that Traikov has "insulted" his ruling centrist-right GERB by saying he has no relationship with the party and its leadership.
On Friday, Borisov declared that the future second Bulgarian nuclear power plant at Belene will not be solely a project of Bulgaria and Russia. He stressed that his Cabinet will keep working in the upcoming weeks in order to "diversify" the future participants in the Belene NPP project.
