The finalization of a deal between Bulgaria and Turkey to interconnect their natural gas networks is set to be among the chief topics of discussion during the visit of Bulgaria's PM Boyko Borisov to Turkey next week.

Tuesday Borisov, together with eight cabinet ministers is traveling to Bulgaria's southeastern neighbor on an important state visit, writes Turkish paper Hurriyet Sunday.

Bulgaria wants to finalize the deal with Turkey, which is part of its plans to diversify its natural gas sources away from Russia, from which it is overly dependent, writes the paper.

The project for a pipeline to interconnect Bulgaria and Turkey can be financed by the EU, and is set to deliver gas to Bulgaria from Azerbaijan, which which Bulgaria has already concluded a preliminary deal.

Bulgaria's energy policy, however, has received a major shake-up over the week, as PM Borisov dismissed Minister of Economy and Energy Traicho Traikov.

Traikov's vice-minister Delyan Dobrev is said to be the person, who is to take up the front seat at the ministry.

Among the reasons for firing Traikov, Borisov pointed out what he saw as the excessively slow work on creating natural gas systems interconnections with Bulgaria's neighboring countries.
