It was not the masked protesters who stopped the ACTA ratification procedure in Bulgaria, according to the country's Economy Minister Traicho Traikov.

In an interview for a local TV channel, Traikov stated that "those who did not hide their faces behind masks but clearly expressed their stance" should take credit for the fact that the Bulgarian government suspended the controversial trade agreement.

Thousands of people, many of whom wearing the kind of masks made popular by "V for Vendetta", gathered in downtown Sofia Saturday to protest the controversial international Anti-counterfeiting Trade Agreement, ACTA.

Anywhere between 4000 and 8000 Bulgarians marched in the Bulgarian capital, led by a black sign reading: "АСТА LA VISTA, BABY!"

Similar rallies took place in another 15-16 Bulgarian cities and in 150 cities across Europe Saturday.

On Wednesday, Bulgaria's cabinet decided to halt the ratification of ACTA in the country. The country's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov vowed that the Members of the European Parliament from his ruling, center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, would not endorse the ratification of ACTA.
