Bulgarian Police Detain Famous Miracle Healer

Bulgarian police have detained Thursday in Sofia a famous self-styled alternative medicine healer, who apparently also practiced in Greece and Turkey.

Police acted on a signal from a customer of the alleged quack, who stated that the practicioner had absolutely no diplomas or certificates of competence.

The miracle healer was arrested during a visit by a journalist, who represented herself as a patient, after which she was questioned and detained for 24 hours.

Police confiscated computers and other records, which showed that the 57-year-old offered various medical and clairvoyant services, for charges ranging from BGN 100 to BGN 1,000.

Bulgarian Blitz information agency however reports it has talked to the arrested person, who complained that police stormed her office without producing a warrant and used violence against her.

The self-proclamed alternative medicine healer is Yoanna Rubin, styling herself as Prof., who represents herself as having a degree in physics and also being a qualified psychologist.

According to her website, she is a corresponding member of the International Informatization Academy, an NGO that claims to be Associated Member of the UN in General Consultative Status with the Economic & Social Council of the UN.

She describes herself as a "celebrities' clairvoyant," and claims she can treat illnesses as grave as cancer, using individualized methods, including what she calls "quantum-physical healing," and other techniques.

Yoanna Rubin's website also mentions that she can meet patients by prior arrangement in Athens and Istanbul.
