Bulgaria's new President, Rosen Plevneliev, promised Thursday that the country will have a new Act for the National Intelligence Services, NRS.

Plevneliev met with the NRS employees and supervisors and told them that there is a need of a working law and clear rules in order for the Services to function normally.

"With the joint effort of the Presidential administration and the respective institutions this can happen in 2012," said he, while declaring his full trust, understanding and support for NRS and their work.

Plevneliev stressed that the institutions need preventive, correct and adequate information and that with the new clear rules the Services will have a great future, and the needed work and career advancement conditions.

He explained he would count on mutual trust and direct communication in his interaction with NRS.

"The work of NRS and its assessment are not visible, but the Services enjoy strong respect and a good image because they don't serve political parties and leaders; they serve national interests. The State and senior officials must have a clear plan for this work in order to turn NRS effective and useful. The economy, the prosperity, and the safety of citizens depend on this" the President stated.

Dragomir Dimitrov, who is temporarily in charge of NRS, says the visit with the Head of State had been a demonstration of trust and of giving the Services priority in guaranteeing Bulgaria's security.

At the end of January, Plevneliev dismissed the previous leadership of NRS and appointed two new Deputy Directors – Dimitrov and Georgi Milenov, with Dimitrov temporary acting as NRS Director.
