Bulgarian President: Germany Must Lead Europe
Bulgaria supports the idea for Germany to have a leading role in Europe and for a harder line for tightening belts on the Old Continent.
The statement was made by the new Bulgarian President, Rosen Plevneliev, in an interview for "Financial Times Deutschland."
Plevneliev voices firm conviction that Germany' policies will lead to a stronger Europe. He stresses that the views of German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, for fiscal stability must become top priority in Europe all while austerity measures should not hurdle economic growth, meaning public resources must be used for investing.
"The future generation should also be able to finance its priorities. Merkel can count on EU Member States in Eastern Europe. In Southern Europe many politicians and citizens think that austerity measures are too difficult," Plevneliev stresses, pointing out that Germany always had a commitment to European unity.
The President explains that Bulgaria could be an example for debt-ridden neighboring Greece.
"10 years ago Bulgaria's total debt was 100% from the Gross Domestic Product, now it is 16% while Greece went from 100% to 170%. We privatized many things "dramatically" quickly. We had 100 000 people laid off in the construction sector and another 15 000 in the public sector" he says.

It is almost impossible to equate German obstructionism, minimalism and incrementalism as leadership of any kind.
What you just mentioned above are simply German wishes. Reality is a much different landscape.
And Britain, despite its long tradition of policies towards Continental Europe division (as a means of securing the island from invasion), has something to say.
After all Keynesian economics are what is most needed in Europe at the moment versus the "Arbeit Macht Frei" austerity of Germania Horribilis.
Excuse my English Mr. Animal but your arguments are not the 21 century one.
Bulgaria is sporting the EU Integration to grow and German innovative leadership for common prosperity of the Europe evolution at this point of time. If one day England propose an actual better socio-economic model for the future of EU states, Bulgaria and others European country more likely will support UK as a current leader for that time. But England must provide a solid prudent numerable arguments, not just abundance of diplomatic speeches, objections and rejections.
That is all.
It is now 21 century time and all old models are collapsing globally. For the moment Germany is leading the EU integration in the 21C direction, and that how it is. The UK socio-economics are going nowhere, therefore no one is supporting that.
“England has not been ruled by any country for many, many hundered of years, we stand firm and argue points till we get reason.”
“Germany has always wanted to own Europe and so has France, with Germany as a senior partner. We got France out of the shit in the war, they could do little as some of them were big friends of the nazi's.”
True, you were not being ruled by any country for a while, but you ruled half of the world for a couple of centuries. So, from the point of view of a small country like Bulgaria, your advice/preaching is simply out of place. In simple terms: any advice by a predator to a victim has a very false/suspect ring. And guess, which side of that argument approximates you stand?
And, if you consider the Americans and the Canadians to be your colonial servants still than you might be right claiming that “ We got France out of the shit in the war” (but not by arguing points, as you claim to be your MO) However, to the rest of the world you were right where France was until America entered the war. At the end you got your freedom and Eastern Europe got Stalin...And now you have the temerity to preach to Bulgarians...WOW...Adding insult to injury perhaps?
So, to paraphrase your words: “ Sorry Animal (you chose this nick not I), but stop and look and think.....
D-Day to Berlin: The Dream That Died
Is this man for real??
Dear Mr President, your fiscal policy looks rather attractive given the economic environment however (and as with most things on paper) they do not reflect the reality on the ground. A pat on the back to your financiers in government and a well done 'whoop' for your economic analysts. But theres been a cost, a cost to the Bulgarian people who have to put up with current social conditions worse than during the soviet era.
So next time you'd like a tooth extracted or your wife needs to give birth or even if you need your head checked come down to the local hospital in Elhovo and see at first hand the reality of fiscal policy.
P.S. Try leading for once, it's reflective of your job description.
"Germany has always wanted to rule Europe". Angela is puzzled...
So says a man under the cloak of a democrate, This is exactly what Germany tried to do during 1938 to 1945. They could not win in a war. So now want to be dictators this way, through the EU. Notice how the German banks don't want to invest, but they expect all other EU countries to invest in the debt.
Germany has always wanted to rule Europe, for many hundereds of years. Bulgaria will again be a servant of Germany, instead of standing firm. And thinking for herself. Do as we do in the UK and argue when you see someone wanting to dictate policy, there will be no good for Bulgaria if it happens.
England has not been ruled by any country for many, many hundered of years, we stand firm and argue points till we get reason. When Germany puts it's hands in its bank and invests in the debt of Europe them the EU will have some sense going.
Germany is only strong because it is doing what it has always done and thought of it's self first. As France always does with EU rules and guide lines. Follow what they do and you can see. Why does the UK stand firm when all others give in, because we are stronger in spirit than the rest of the EU.
Germany has always wanted to own Europe and so has France, with Germany as a senior partner. We got France out of the shit in the war, they could do little as some of them were big friends of the nazi's. Now it seems to look like the same thing again under another name. Sorry people, but stop and look and think.....
What is happening to Europe slowly. Germany wants to control Greece, the same as they did in WWII, they want to control Greeces finance, do that and they control the country, all with out invading or going to war. If you don't believe me, tell me what Germany is trying to do, to sort out Greeces debt. It says it wants to control the debt, what is that if it is not controling a country, no finance, no Indepenance, another words being run by a dictator..... No other way to say it.
Before it is too late everyone, look at what Germany wants to do to sort the problem out, rule the EU, with France as a junior partener. Look at the arguments with the UK and Germany, we have been at logger heads for many years. Going back to WWI. Eventually Germany will Control France as well, given time. Then they have got all they wanted and with out a war and invasion to get it.
Thank you folks, for letting me get on my soap box,
Best wishes to everyone reading this,
