The speech delivered by Bulgaria's new President Rosen Plevneliev on Thursday would have been more appropriate if he was sworn in as Prime Minister instead, members of the oppositional Bulgarian Socialist Party believe.
"We heard an attempt for a political platform," BSP MP Anton Kutev commented on Plevneliev's speech in the Parliament, adding that Prime Minister Boyko Borisov should have done that "a long time ago.
Kutev pointed out it was a platform that concerned the executive power and not the presidential institution.
"There is something important in what Plevneliev said – he likes at least one aspect of the government's work: maintaining the financial stability and continuing the policies of the last two governments," Kutev added.
He stated that the new President is obviously dissatisfied with everything else the centrist-right GERB government has done so far and should therefore work towards appointing a new interim government.
Another key BSP lawmaker, Petar Korumbashev, has also been cited saying that Plevneliev's speech was rather meant to be delivered by a Prime Minister.
Rosen Plevneliev from the ruling centrist-right party GERB got sworn in as the President of the Republic of Bulgaria at 10.05 Eastern European Time on Thursday, January 19, 2011.
