The most important task ahead of Bulgaria's new President Rosen Plevneliev is to "maintain the high degree of trust" in the Presidential institution, according to his predecessor, Georgi Parvanov.
"He has some interesting ideas, some of them have been my ideas, too," Parvanov commented on Thursday after Plevneliev was sworn in in the Parliament. He cited "generating more debates on national goals and priorities" as an idea he and Plevneliev had in common.
Parvanov also pointed out the importance of continuity, stating that Plevneliev should keep the presidential office as a factor for the country's stability.
The new President should maintain an important role in the defense sector as a factor in the country's foreign policy, Parvanov believes.
The outgoing President further told reporters that he did not feel any remorse for the Bulgarian military participation in Iraq.
"This is a part of the commitments one has as an ally," he pointed out.
