Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov, whose second and last term in office ends on January 22, will announce his plans for his political future on February 4, according to a media report.
By then, Parvanov is expected to renew his membership in the left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party, dnevnik.bg reports, citing its own sources.
February 4 will mark the 15th anniversary since the toppling of the ill-fated Socialist cabinet of Zhan Videnov that led the country to extreme poverty and caused hyperinflation.
In November, the outgoing Bulgarian President said that he would return to the left-wing formation and hinted he would run for an office in his future political career, but refused to share details.
Rumors have it that Parvanov will try to challenge current Socialist Party chair and ex-PM (2005-9) Sergey Stanishev for the Socialists' leadership position at a congress in March or October.
The outgoing President chaired the party between 1995 and 2001.
Parvanov is to hand down Bulgaria's Presidency to ruling centrist-right GERB's Rosen Plevneliev, who won the second round of presidential elections in Bulgaria, October 30, 2011, with 53% of the vote, against the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party's candidate, MEP Ivaylo Kalfin as a runner-up.
