Filling station owners will get no postponement for the installation of level gauges connected to the database of the National Revenue Agency (NRA).

The end-March deadline was confirmed on Thursday after a meeting between experts of the NRA, the Bulgarian Institute of Metrology (BIM), industry organizations, servicing companies and fiscal systems manufacturers.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the newly established association of small and middle-sized filling stations in the country, NRA said in a statement.

The Bulgarian market currently offers 11 types of level gauges among which the traders are free to choose.

By January 15, more fiscal systems will be submitted for approval with the BIM.

According to NRA experts, the deadline until end-March is achievable and its extension will not even be brought up for discussion.

In the meantime it was announced that around 90 000 fiscal devices have already been connected to the NRA database, with some 210 000 left to ensure compliance with the requirement by end-March 2012.

Filling stations which fail to provide the mandatory electronic connection will face a fine of up to BGN 10 000 or closure.

According to preliminary data of the NRA, if the current rates of installation stay the same, an estimated 50 000 may go out of business.

Over 80% of the fiscal devices currently in operation can be adjusted, meaning that owners will not incur additional costs for new equipment.

An electronic guidebook on NRA's website shows if a fiscal device can be modified.
