In his tenth and last New Year's address, Bulgaria's outgoing President Georgi Parvanov has thanked the people in country for being "understanding".

He also stated that he got trust and support, and that it had been an "honor" for him to serve his two terms.

"2011 was hard for us Bulgarians, for Europe, and for the world. That is why the holiday messages of state and political leaders [around the world] featured more than ever messages for compassion and solidarity towards those who suffered the most from the crisis. But in addition to compassion, people need and expect a fair assessment, and the right leadership and state decisions to make the nation more unified and stronger," declared on the verge of 2012 Parvanov, whose second term as President of the Republic of Bulgaria expires in 20 days.

His tenth New Year's address also featured the traditional calls for good deeds and moral values.

"Let's get filled with hope that even darkest forebodings will remain warnings only," the Bulgarian head of state said in his wishes for 2012.
