Bulgarian Prime Minister has almost admitted that the oppositional Bulgarian Socialist Party will defeat his centrist-right GERB in the next general elections, according to President Georgi Parvanov.
Parvanov responded to a comment made earlier on Tuesday by Borisov who hinted that the outgoing President is hoping to succeed him as Prime Minister.
"I grateful to Mr. Borisov for being so concerned about my future," Parvanov, whose second and last term in office ends in January, ironically remarked.
"As far as my political future is concerned, if I have something to announce, I will do it after January 22," the outgoing President has said, as cited by news.bg.
Parvanov stated that he would be pleased to end his term with dignity after 10 years in office and wished Borisov to leave his own office with the same feeling of accomplishment, but added he was not sure if his political rival was capable of finishing his whole term as Prime Minister.
Over the summer, Parvanov had said that Bulgarian citizens will have the opportunity to vote for him once more after his presidential term is over, suggesting he does not plan to withdraw from active politics.
Some sources among the socialists have speculated Parvanov might try to reassume leadership of the Bulgarian Socialist Party from its current leader Sergey Stanishev.
