Grain Producers' Protest Againt the Draft Fuel Will Not be Held
After a meeting at the Council of Ministers, the grain producers cancel the announced protests, according to BGNES.
The European Commission has approved the notification for the reduced excise duty rate for fuel used for agricultural purposes, said Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov at a press conference on Tuesday.
"The notification for the lower excise duty for fuel used for agricultural purposes has been approved and will be promulgated in the Official Journal of the European Union within 10 days. They wanted it and they will get it. Let us let us show some humility and not pull the devil by the tail," he stated.
A total of BGN 70 M has been earmarked for the implementation of the lower excise tax for fuel used by agricultural producers in 2012.
Tuesday's press conference at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food was attended by representatives of almost all organizations participating in the protests except for the National Association of Grain Producers (NAGP).
NAGP said earlier Tuesday that they would not attend the press conference because they would hear no new proposals.
The grain producers' protests continue.
Meanwhile Sofia was gripped by a rally of agricultural producers who arrived in the city late on Monday.
Over 170 tractors were parked in front of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in protest at government plans to slash agricultural subsidies for 2012.
In 2012 Bulgarian farmers will get BGN 22.50 per decare in EU subsidies and an estimated BGN 3 in national top-ups per area.
