The government has opposed the petition filed by 71 MPs to the Constitutional Court (KS) seeking the cancellation of the end-October presidential vote as "indadmissible and unfounded".
The Council of Ministers, which has been accepted as a party to the case, insists that KS start a new discussion on the issue and reject the "unjustified" petition of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) party and nationalist party Ataka.
The Cabinet's stance was approved at its November 30 session and was subsequently submitted by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov in person.
KS gave the green light to the petition's substantive hearing on November 24.
According to legal experts, as cited by Trud daily, KS has never before reconsidered an admissibility ruling.
The two rounds of the presidential and local elections held in end-October were accompanied by widespread reports of fraud and violations of the Election Code.
The run-off of the elections for a head of state ended with a victory for the ticket of center-right ruling party GERB.
