Fired Military Attaches Sue Bulgarian Defense Ministry

Former officers of the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense Volodya Tsvetanov and Valetin Tsankov have filed claims against the ministry for being improperly dismissed.

The two have joined other 5 employees of the Defense Ministry, who have been fired due to what they believe to be political reasons, or allegiance to former communist secret State Service.

In February both Tsvetanov and Tsankov were dismissed by Minister of Defense Anyu Angelov due to their past affiliation with State Security.

Tsvetanov had served as Bulgaria's military attache in Kiev, while Tsankov worked as military attache in Washington DC.

Volodya Tsvetanov is also brother of Bulgarian Socialist Party MP and former Minister of Interior Rumen Tsvetkov.

In addition, four ex ambassadors of Bulgaria to other countries are suing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for recalling them due to their past as secret agents.
