The National Council of Bulgaria's right wing Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) will vote Tuesday on a confidence motion requested by UDF Chair and Blue Coalition Co-Chair Martin Dimitrov.

The right-wing leader vowed to request a confidence vote over the growing discontent within the party with the results Rumen Hristov scored at the end-October presidential elections.

Rumen Hristov, the candidate of the Bulgarian Union of Democratic Forces (UDF), won the preliminary presidential elections within the rightist Blue Coalition on Sunday.

Hristov beat Svetoslav Malinov, the runner endorsed by the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB), the other participant in the coalition, by a 11.48% margin.

The preliminary vote caused a rift within the Blue Coalition mainly due to the mayoral nomination of UDF, which left DSB suspicious towards its partner's reliability.

At the October 23 presidential and local elections, the right-wing presidential runner Hristov and his running mate Emanuil Yordanov received close to 2.5% of the votes.

On November 21, Bulgarian EPP MEP Nadezhda Mihaylova-Neynski commented that it made no sense for the UDF National Council to vote on the confidence motion sought by Dimitrov because it was the same organ that had approved the nomination of Rumen Hristov and the "replacement" of the Blue Coalition with the "Union of Right-Wing Forces," .

Neynski suggested that the entire executive body of UDF had to step down.

In the beginning of November, the other Blue Coalition co-Chair, Ivan Kostov, argued that DSB had technically failed to take part in the presidential and local elections because it had been replaced by the so-called "Union of Right-Wing Forces," which had ended in a total disaster.

Kostov referred to the new coalition, which emerged at the beginning of September after registering with the Central Election Commission, CEC.

The Coalition included UDF, and 6 other smaller right-wing political formations, among them the United Democratic Forces (ODS) party of former Mayor of Sofia, Stefan Sofiyanski, who ran again for the office in the latest elections.

The new Coalition attempted to unite the right-wing political spectrum, but did not include UDF's long-term coalition partner DSB.
