MALEEVA DOWNED BY US FRAZIER IN THREE SETS IN US OPEN

Bulgaria's 16th seed Magdalena Maleeva leaves U.S. Open in the third round of the women's singles matches of the tournament. The participation of the most successful Bulgarian tennis player in this year's last tournament for the Grand Slam came to an end after a defeat by 73rd seed Amy Frazier of the United States. Frazier downed 27-year-old Maleeva 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. After 1997 this is the second time that Maleeva leaves the tournament at this stage. Her best performance in New York were the quarterfinals in 1992. US's Jennifer Capriati moved into US Open fourth round crushing compatriot Meghann Shaughnessy. Switzerland's Martina Hingis will face US's Monica Seles in the US Open after beating South Africa's Amanda Coetzer. Monica Seles overcame brave performance from Korean Yoon Jeong Cho 6-1 5-7 6-3.
