The opposition, left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) cannot count on the support of the right-wing Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) in demands to recall the presidential elections.
This is the decision of the UDF leadership, according to Dimo Gyaurov, a Member of the Parliament from the Blue Coalition, which includes UDF and the other right-wing party Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB). Gyaurov spoke Wednesday for the Bulgarian National Radio, BNR.
One day earlier, BSP announced their decision to demand a recall of the results of the October 23 presidential elections and October 30 runoff. The left wing informed they are launching consultations to collect signatures to file a claim with the Constitutional Council to contest the legality of the elections for the country's Head of State.
Gyaurov said the Constitutional Court would not be able to recall the elections, maybe in some locations, but not the overall results since the chaos with collecting and counting ballots in the first round would not be enough as grounds for such major move.
The right wing suffered a crushing defeat in the presidential elections with their candidate Rumen Hristov collecting a mere 60 000 votes, which the MP explained with manipulations on one side and the poor state of the Blue Coalition.
"Despite violations and manipulations, we must admit that the voter does not like our current look – maybe because our cause has been depleted, maybe because our facade is no longer pleasant. Resignations are a must, along with new faces and new energy," Gyaurov pointed out.
According to official runoff results, 47-year-old Rosen Plevneliev, former Regional Minister and candidate of the ruling center-right party GERB, won with 52.58% of the votes cast. His opponent from the Bulgarian Socialist Party Ivaylo Kalfin lost by a relatively narrow margin – he got 47.2% of the vote.
