The measure, a brainchild of Parliamentary Speaker Tsetska Tsacheva, has been explained with the ridiculous "desire to stop MPs from using the parliamentary tribune for election campaigning".
The parliamentary tribune is not designed for campaigning anyway, but the majority of MPs have apparently decided to admit their lack of professionalism instead of putting some efforts into working.
The decision was passed on Wednesday, mainly with the vote of the MPs from the ruling center–right GERB, some of whom participate in the elections.
The local elections in particular are extremely important not only for GERB, but for all parliamentary formations, since they present wonderful opportunities for taking part in nice local corruption schemes.
It is therefore understandable that the Bulgarian lawmakers prefer to skip work in favor of "party business", voting themselves yet another long break (it is only schoolchildren in Bulgaria that enjoy vacations so long).
What I do not understand is why the politicians insist on pretending the country has a working parliament instead of saving some taxpayer money and shutting down its legislatives.
When more decent lawmakers emerge in the country, the parliament may start working again.
