Zhelyu Zhelev, a former Bulgarian President (1990-1997), has been appointed as the Balkan country's special representative in Tunisia, Foreign Minister Nikolay Mlaldenov has revealed.

Mladenov is currently on an official visit to the North African state, where he met with its Prime Minister Beji Cadi el Sebsi, as well as his Tunisian counterpart, Mohamed Mouldi Kefi.

Zhelyu Zhelev is a francophone and has a rich experience gathered from Bulgaria's democrtatic transition during the past 20 years, Mladenov has pointed out, as cited by the Dnevnik daily.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister has also announced that Bulgarian experts will share their experience with Tunisian election organizers and train potential future MPs.

Tunisia's possible success is crucial fo the whole North African region, Mladenov has declared. He has stated that Tunisia is one of Bulgaria's key economic partners in North Africa.

Zhelyu Zhelev was the first democratically elected President of Bulgaria. Currently, he serves as an Honorary Co-Chair for the World Justice Project. The World Justice Project works to lead a global, multidisciplinary effort to strengthen the Rule of Law for the development of communities of opportunity and equity.
