Ivan Kostov, co-chair of the rightist Bulgarian Blue Coalition, has reiterated that his formation will back the upcoming no confidence vote against the centrist-right GERB's minority government.
Kostov, a former PM (1997-2001), has called the attempts on behalf of the country's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov to make the Blue Coalition change its mind "a mafia-style racketeering", explaining that Borisov had said he would apologize for criticizing the rightist coalition if they supported him.
The vote scheduled for next week is provoked by what the opposition has perceived as failure of the internal security and public order policy, police brutality, violations of basic human rights, and delay in Bulgaria's joining of the Schengen zone.
The Blue Coalition has declared it will support the no confidence vote over what it regards as failures of Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov.
"This man (Tsvetanov) substituted order based on law with order based on fear," Kostov told the Bulgarian National Radio, referring to what has been described by the opposition as too intrusive policing on behalf of the Minister.
"Tsvetanov is dangerous, and mainly for GERB," the rightist leader added.
The Blue Coalition used to support Borisov's ruling centrist-right GERB, but subsequently moved into opposition. However, the rightists are also distinguishing themselves from the other oppositional parliamentary groups, those of their archrivals from the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms, the two formations that proposed the no confidence vote.
