New sections of a Roman main street (decumanus) have been unearthed during archaeological excavations in the underpass between the Council of Ministers and the Presidency in Sofia.

"They are in excellent condition, including the elements of the urban sewerage system and the street curbs", said Bulgarian Culture Minister Todor Chobanov.

At the same time, a team of archaeologists working on a nearby site came across fragments of mosaics on a representative building.

Talks are underway with the Sofia Municipality about the financing of the next phase of the exploratory work estimated at around BGN 1 M.
