Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov was not understood properly and did not mean to insult his compatriots on Monday, when he compared them to his dogs.

On Monday, Borisov stated that Bulgarians are just like his dogs – "one should keep a strict hand over them", he said.

"I have not said anything. I have not talked with anyone on any theme in order to be cited by radio stations, TV channels or whatever," the Prime Minister declared Tuesday, as cited by the Dnevnik daily.

Borisov pointed out that his favourite dog breed, the Bulgarian shepherd dog, is "very strong and brave and one should keep a strict hand over it" on Tuesday. He said that the statements that he has insulted his compatriots were "lies", saying he meets with thousands of people each day and "has his own way of speaking".
