An international train travelling from Turkey for Germany caught fire near Plovdiv in Southern Bulgaria, Dobrina Toncheva, Spokesperson of the National Fire Brigade said. No passenger was reported injured. Seven automobiles transported in the freight section of the train were completely destroyed, Toncheva said. The fire was extinguished within an hour. The incident occurred in the vicinity of the Popovitsa railway station at 12.42hrs. Five fire-fighting vehicles were immediately sent to the spot. Colonel Roumen Dimchev, head of the Plovdiv Fire Safety Service, also went to the scene of the
incident. Te burning part of the freight section was separated. Cars destroyed by the fire belonged to passengers travelling on the same train. Another vehicle was damaged, and 25 ones were salvaged. The train consisted of six passenger and nine freight carriages,
three of which carried cars in the rear of the train. Police is investigating the cause of the incident, Toncheva said.
