Bulgaria Expects No Confidence Vote Friday

A no-confidence vote has been scheduled Friday in the Bulgarian Parliament.
The vote was submitted last week by the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, and the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms, DPS, on the grounds of what they perceive as the ruling centrist-right GERB's overall failure in the economy, anti-European policies in the education and innovation sectors, failure in the absorption of EU funds, impoverishment of people and problems in local administrations.
The no confidence vote debates in the Bulgarian Parliament began with a scandal Thursday, after the majority rejected the opposition's request to have the session aired live on the national radio and TV.
The debates were not aired because Thursday was a day of national mourning over a hellish car crash that killed 8 people Wednesday.
The right-wing Blue Coalition left plenary hall, as they have previously announced they would not take part in the debates and the vote because they did not want to support BSP and DPS nor the cabinet.
The far-right, nationalist Ataka, with 17 MPs, also left the Parliament.
The no confidence vote, submitted in the Bulgarian Parliament by the opposition, needs 121 MPs voting "for" in order to pass. It is widely expected it will be rejected by the 117 GERB MPs and 6 independent ones. The Blue Coalition and Ataka declared they will not be part of the voting because they did not want to support BSP, DPS, and GERB.
Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and his Deputy, Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, did not attend Thursday's debates.
