The MPs from Bulgaria's rightist Blue Coalition failed to agree upon how to vote in the upcoming no confidence vote against the ruling GERB government in the country.
After discussing the coalition' position for more than three hours on Tuesday, the right wingers postponed their decision for Wednesday, Marin Dimitrov, one of its two co-leaders, revealed, as cited by BGNES.
Dimitrov described the vote as a "theater play" staged by the oppositional leftist Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) in order to check is the far-right Ataka (Attack) is still loyal to GERB.
The upcoming no confidence vote, submitted last Friday, is the brainchild of DPS and BSP.
The grounds for the vote are listed as "failure in anti-crisis policies." The debates on it are to be held Thursday while, under the Parliamentary code, the voting must be scheduled 24 hours later.
The vote would pass with 121 Members of the Parliament voting "for." Together, BSP and DPS have 75 MPs. The ruling, center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB, party has majority with the vote of several independent MPs. The co-Chair of the right-wing Blue Coalition, Ivan Kostov, already said they would not support a no confidence vote on the above said grounds. After threats they will withdraw their support for GERB, the far-right, nationalist Ataka, with 17 MPs, stated last Friday they will give those in power one last chance.
This is the second no confidence vote requested by the opposition. The first one was over the health care policy and failed due to GERB and Ataka MPs.
The Blue Coalition is a member of the European People's Party and initially supported the ruling centrist right GERB party which took over in the 2009 elections in Bulgaria, but subsequently moved into opposition. The coalition is co-chaired by Martin Dimitrov from UDF and former PM Ivan Kostov (1997-2001) from DSB.
