Bulgaria: L'Oreal, UNESCO Launch 2nd 'For Women in Science' Program in Bulgaria

L'Oreal Bulgaria and the National Commission of Bulgaria for UNESCO's fellowship program "For Women in Science" has been launched for the second time in Bulgaria.

Women with PhD degrees aged up to 35 and working in the sphere of Life Sciences are eligible for the fellowships from June 15 to October 1 2011. The winners will receive fellowships worth EUR 5000 each, which they will be able to use for scientific research in Bulgaria.

"The "For Women in Science" program is constantly engaged in supporting female researchers. Each year, it encourages talents from all over the world, and today we are proud to announce its second edition in Bulgaria. That is why I believe that a lot of young women will apply with innovative projects in the sphere of Life Sciences and we are eager to receive their applications," Sanya Burg from L'oreal Bulgaria's Corporate Communications, commented.

"Thanks to this wonderful project, in which I participated and earned a fellowship, I am now able to carry out a very important environmental project, on which I have wanted to work for quite a while. I am sincerely happy to have applied for last year's edition and I recommend it to all Bulgarian women, who are struggling with the harsh scientific environment, but still manage to achieve impressive results. I am grateful that there is a program like that in Bulgaria, which acknowledges the importance of investing in science as necessary precondition for the development of the society as a whole," Erlisaveta Kirilova, one of the winners in 2010's edition, said.

The L'Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science program has been promoting women in scientific research on a global scale since 1998. The unique partnership is built around the L'Or?al-UNESCO Awards, the UNESCO-L'Oreal International Fellowships, and L'Or?al-UNESCO National Fellowships with the support of the UNESCO National Commissions.
