Bulgarian President Addresses American Visa Issue with Obama: Bulgarian President Addresses Visa Issue with Obama Bulgarian President Georgij Parvanov (C) is welcomed by Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski (2L) and US President Barack Obama (R) before a working dinner in Warsaw, Poland, 27 May

The diversification of energy sources is one of the topics Bulgarian President, Georgi Parvanov, has discussed with US counterpart, Barack Obama, during the Friday working dinner in the Polish capital Warsaw.

Parvanov was one of the twenty Heads of State from Central and Eastern Europe, CEE, to take part in the meeting.

The President spoke Saturday, during the opening of the 13th international conference of the Balkan Atlantic Club "The Balkans in Europe and the World in the 21st Century," dedicated to the 10th anniversary of its founding, saying during talks with Obama, the country leaders attempted to outline the place and the role of CEE in global processes and its relations with neighboring regions.

"Taking into account the difficulties before the Nabucco gas pipeline, the hesitations of some countries that are gas suppliers, the need of a firmer position on some of the pipe's routes, I think the American opinion is a must. This was an emblematic meeting. The very presence of President Obama at a forum of regional leaders is a demonstration of the American commitment to our countries," Parvanov declared.

The Bulgarian Head of State further informed he addressed with Obama the issue of lifting the visa regime for Bulgarians, saying since Bulgaria is an ally and a partner of the US, this issue must be resolved ASAP.

The President pointed out there is a need of increasing American investments because Bulgaria offers many attractive opportunities.

"For the many years of being part of the same union, we are yet to see a radical change in the interest of the American business towards the region," Parvanov stressed.

The situation on the Balkans has also been discussed during the dinner with Bulgaria's President supporting the idea there is a general trend for stabilization, accompanied by isolated radical outbursts, including in Bulgaria, triggered by economic and social hardships.

"The extremist formations, still popping out 20 years after the beginning of the transition period is something that is alarming," Parvanov concluded.
