Daniel Mitov Ready for Foreign Minister Role Amid Geopolitical Test in Bulgaria
Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chairman of GERB, has expressed his readiness to assume the position of Acting Foreign Minister
The Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, has held informal talks with the other opposition force – the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms, DPS, and the right-wing Blue Coalition for a joint no confidence vote against the cabinet.
The news was reported by BSP leader and former Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev, who spoke Saturday in an interview for TV7, saying the exact grounds for the vote are yet to be decided.
The BSP leader appealed to all opposition forces to increase contacts and collaboration.
"I expect to hear, after the holidays, the opinion of many Members of the Parliament, who oppose the cabinet; to seek a subject that would unite all of us, and to collect the needed signatures," Stanishev said, reiterating the cabinet of the center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB, party is detrimental for the country.
The former PM pointed out the opposition has an extensive choice of motives for the no confidence vote – economy, finances, police brutality, interference with the Courts' work, repressions, negative reports from Europol and the European Judges' Association.
Regarding the BSP presidential nomination, Stanishev failed to answer yes or no on the question if his party was going to support former and first Bulgarian EU Commissioner, Meglena Kuneva, saying such support was possible, but difficult to realize since the Socialists' nomination must have firm and clear commitments.
Kuneva, who is from the party of former King and PM, Simeon Saxe-Coburg – National Movement for Stability and Prosperity, NMSP, has said on numerous occasions she would enter the race as an independent candidate should she decide to run.
