Volen Siderov, leader of the Bulgarian far-right Ataka (Attack) formation, the only parliamentary ally of the ruling GERB, threatened his party may withdraw its support and turn oppositional.

Siderov's rage was triggered by an accident earlier Friday, in which Ataka supporters started a brawl in front of the Banya Bashi mosque in downtown Sofia, interrupting a Muslim Friday prayer and and injuring at least one of the prayers. They were protesting the fact it has loudspeakers that sound Muslim prayers in the entire area around it. Several were detained.

If the police does not release the Ataka supporters, the party will move into opposition, Siderov said.

"The police should react immediately and capture the Islamist criminal, who threw a stone at a Bulgarian MP!," Siderov said from the Parliamentary tribune. Denitsa Gadzheva, an MP from Ataka, was hit by a stone thrown by a Muslim, Siderov claimed.

"Otherwise, (Interior) Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov should immediately resign – and then GERB will see what a real opposition is," Siderov threatened.

The nationalist leader further called the Bulgarian police "Janissary units"(the Janissaries were infantry units that formed the Ottoman sultan's household troops and bodyguards), as they were "arresting Bulgarian patriots and not Islamists who threaten Christians."

Siderov has launched attacks on his allies. During a party meeting in the town of Batak, scheduled as an event to pay homage to Batak martyrs killed by Ottoman Forces, Siderov voiced strong criticism towards GERB, calling them national traitors over their refusal to declare May 17 "Day of National Genocide against Bulgarian People Committed by Turkey."

"We warn GERB that if they continue to ignore Bulgaria's national interests and to serve America, Russia and Turkey, they will soon collapse and become extinct as a political force. Ataka has granted GERB support, but under the condition of protection of national interests. We now need a Head of State, who will fight for our national interests," Siderov said.

The nationalist leader further appealed to GERB to not raise electricity prices on June 1, threatening this will mean the end of his support for them.

Siderov will run for President in the upcoming elections in the fall.
