Bulgaria's Deputy Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski will be put in charge of the department in the wake of Minister Tsvetkov's surprising resignation, the government has decided.

Prime Minister Boyko Borisov will propose to parliament that Alexander Tsvetkov is dismissed and replaced by Ivaylo Moskovski, the government press office announced.

In his capacity of deputy minister, Ivaylo Moskovski has been responsible for the absorption of EU funds under the Transport Operative Program.

Over the last few weeks EU Funds Minister Tomislav Donchev repeatedly praised Moskovski for his successful work in negotiating the allotment of EU funds for the country's railway infrastructure.

Bulgaria's transport minister Alexander Tsvetkov has unexpectedly submitted his resignation, it emerged on Wednesday.

The information was confirmed by Education Minister Sergei Ignatov and Defense Minister Anyu Anguelov, who said the announcement was made earlier in the day by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

The ministers said they are not aware of the motives for Tsvetkov's surprising resignation.

Minister Tsvetkov has submitted his resignation due to personal reasons, according to a short statement by the transport ministry, circulated to the media.

Tsvetkov was appointed Transport Minister at the end of July 2009 right after the new center-right government of Boyko Borisov stepped into office.

Prior to that he was in charge of the transport sector in Sofia municipality during Borisov's term as mayor of the Bulgarian capital.

The news of Tsvetkov's resignation comes just a day after Yane Yanev, leader of the conservative Order, Law and Justice, RZS, party and one of the biggest opponents of the government warned that the Ministers of Transport and Agriculture, Alexander Tsvetkov and Miroslav Naydenov, are due to be dismissed over failure to fulfill their obligations and pre-election scheming.
