The general national assembly of the Bulgarian right-wing Democrats for Strong Bulgaria, DSB, party unanimously elected Saturday, Svetoslav Malinov, as their presidential candidate.

Malinov was the only nomination, proposed by DSB leader, Ivan Kostov.

The head of the election headquarters of DSB, Veselin Metodiev and the DSB Member of the Parliament, Ivan Ivanov, had also been among those considered for the race, but they have declined the nomination.

"It seems I will remain the sole candidate for quite a while. Obviously, other parties are in a serious state of fence-sitting," Malinov commented after the election, adding he did not expect any details, compromising his run, to emerge.

Kostov pointed out the delayed announcement of candidates from other political formations means fear from voters.

"Malinov is from the new generation of Bulgarian politicians and we are very happy DSB chose him and chose him first," the party leader stated.

Now, open elections, expected to be held by the end of May, will put Malinov against the other right-wing candidate – Rumen Hristov from the Union of Democratic Forces, UDF. The two parties form the right-wing Blue Coalition.

Malinov announced he will visit more than 20 cities and towns in the next 20 days, because meeting with voters were very important for him.
