The opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, is asking for a Parliamentary hearing of Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, over the recent report of Europol, criticizing Bulgaria.

According to the report, Black Sea ports including Odessa, Constanta and Bulgaria's Varna have been identified as points of transit or entry for cocaine from Latin America.

The Socialists are going to question Tsvetanov on the measures he plans to undertake to counter organized crime.

The report, published Wednesday, points out that Bulgaria's and Romania's Schengen entry could lead to increase of crimes over the said cocaine deals along with the two countries' involvement in human trafficking and their large Roma communities.

"The laud bragging about Bulgaria's success in fighting organized crime ended up being quite different than Europol's assessment," Mihail Mikov, BSP Member of the Parliament and former Interior Minister, is quoted saying.

Mikov points out the report bears at least two risks for Bulgaria – impeding the Schengen zone entry along with the Eurozone one over the reputation of local criminals for making high-quality counterfeit bills.

"In this situation, the cabinet must undertake strong measures against organized crime giving our European partners real proof that Bulgaria is a safe and secure country, guaranteeing the interests of all EU citizens," the BS PM stated, adding the left wing will further insist to be informed on measures regarding a possible wave of refugees from Northern Africa.
