Bulgaria needs a non-partisan President, Meglena Kuneva, Bulgaria's former EU Commissioner, stated Monday.

Kuneva would therefore only run in the upcoming elections as a non-partisan candidate, she herself declared before the Bulgarian National Television, reiterating what she already said on a couple of occasions.

"It was the media that got me involved in the presidential campaign," Kuneva pointed out, adding that since the media started mentioning her name as a potential candidate, a lot of false rumors have been spread about her.

"These lies come from former (communist) State Security agents, which makes me think that what I am doing is valuable," she claimed.

Towards the end of April, Daniel Valchev, former Education Minister from the centrist party of Simeon Saxe-Coburg, said Kuneva, who is a former EU Commissioner for consumer protection, will run for Bulgaria's president in the fall.
